Revue Packing 101: Tips and Tricks

1.      Label your bag

Labeling your dancers bag with their name is one of the best things you can do! This allows staff to easily find the bag in case something was forgotten. It also helps keep shoes and personal belongings from being mixed up at the end of the night.

2.      Bring a beach towel or blanket

Bringing a beach towel or blanket for your dancer to sit on backstage is a great idea. The floors backstage can be cold and it also helps protect the costumes from getting dirty

3.      Dance shoes

DON’T FORGET YOUR DANCE SHOES! When packing be sure that you have all your necessary dance shoes in your bag. It’s a good idea to label or write your name in the shoes to help prevent mix ups backstage.

4.      Extra Hair Supplies

You should come to the recital venue with your hair already done for your first dance. However, you should always pack extra hair ties, bobby pins, hair nets, hairspray, and hair gel for any last-minute hair touch ups.

5.      Extra Makeup and Makeup Wipes

Just like your hair, you should come with your makeup done. The makeup does not need to be full glam, just light natural makeup (blush, lipstick, mascara). Be sure to pack some makeup wipes!

6.      Extra Tights

Tights have a habit of ripping or getting dirty right before you go on stage. It’s recommended that you bring at least 1 extra pair of tights of each color that you are required to wear.

7.      Entertainment

With the excitement of performing on stage comes lots of waiting. We recommend that you pack a book, coloring books (crayons no markers), or gaming devices. Be sure that if you bring an electronic that you have downloaded the apps that you want to use. WIFI may not be available. It is also recommended to bring headphones or air pods to help keep noise down backstage.

8.      Safety Pins and Sewing Kits

While we hope they are not needed it’s always a good idea to keep some safety pins or a sewing kit in your revue bag. It’s always good to be prepared for a costume emergency!

9.      Snacks and Water

We all can get “hangry” sometimes. When packing snacks be sure to pack snacks that won’t leave a residue, no Doritos! Some snack examples are cheerios, goldfish, gummies, plain crackers, and apple slices. When packing drinks, PLEASE only pack clear liquids. No food colorings. Drink examples are water and capri-suns.
