How can I be promoted to pointe?

Pointe is a huge step in a dancer’s career. Pointe work requires dedication, strength, and maturity.

Here are a few questions we are often asked:

How old does a dancers need to be?

There is no special age. Promotion depends on the dancer’s strength, maturity, and the amount of class hours per work.

How many ballet classes are required?

A dancer must take a minimum of two hours per week (ballet technique)..

How is a dancer promoted to pointe?

The dancer must be enrolled in ballet and pre-pointe. During pre-pointe, the dancer is assessed by their instructor. A meeting is held with the dancers and their parents to discuss the assessment and next steps.

What is pre-pointe?

Pre-pointe is a secondary class is for ballet dancers ages 10 and up who are preparing for pointe. The class builds upon the student’s current ballet class and introduces specific exercises plus theraband work. This class builds strength in the foot, ankle, and core and also insures proper alignment for progression to full pointe class.

What happens if I’m not promoted to pointe?

Assessments are held in December and May. If you aren’t promoted in December, your instructor will tell you exactly what exercises to work on. Many dancers may spend two years or more in pre-pointe before being promoted.

Being promoted to pointe, requires a lot of hard work. Be prepared for sore toes and maybe a little frustration.
