Alicia Washburn's dance journey began under the tutelage of Joy Hargrave at Lockhart’s School of Dance of South Hill, where she cultivated her early passion for dance. Transitioning to Shannon’s School of Dance, Alicia honed her skills in classical ballet, tap, and jazz under the guidance of Shannon Smith and Phyllis Daw for seven formative years. Her dedication led her to assist Mrs. Daw in ballet classes for three years, sparking her interest in teaching.

Continuing her ballet training at Raleigh Dance Theatre and Chesterfield School of Ballet, Alicia furthered her education at Radford University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Minor under the direction of Frano Jelincic and Dagmar Kessler.

Alicia's quest for knowledge extended beyond traditional training grounds. She attended Summer Intensives at renowned institutions such as Raleigh Dance Theatre, Southern Ballet Theatre, and the American Academy of Ballet. Here, she immersed herself in various dance styles and disciplines, broadening her horizons under the guidance of esteemed Ballet Masters like David Howard and Gelsey Kirkland.

As a choreographer for the Colonial Theater in South Hill, Alicia has left an indelible mark, orchestrating productions ranging from "Smoke on the Mountain" to "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat." Her creative vision and choreographic prowess have illuminated stages and captivated audiences.

Committed to continuous growth, Alicia actively participates in ballet teacher intensives with luminaries like Roni Mahler and Bruce Marks. She stays abreast of industry trends by attending seminars and conferences such as the DanceLife Teacher Conference and International Dance Entrepreneur’s Association Conference.

Alicia is a proud member of the International Dance Acclaim and holds certifications as a Rhythm Works Integrative Dance Instructor and in the Alixia Flexibility program, catering to students with diverse learning needs.

With over 20 years of experience as a ballet instructor and co-owner of Dance It Out, Alicia Washburn continues to inspire and empower dancers, enriching their lives through the transformative power of dance.
